Sweetwater 30th Best Selling Craft Brewer in the USA, 43rd Overall

Sweetwater was one of only two Southeastern bottlers to make the 2007 Brewers Association Top 50 List.  New Orleans area brewer Abita came in at number 17 on the craft list.  California led all states (and likely most nations) with 11 breweries on the list.  Here is a look at the number of breweries in the top 50 for a few other states.

  1. Colorado - 6
  2. Vermont - 3
  3. New York - 3
  4. Oregon - 5
  5. Massachusetts - 2 (both in top 10)

We see nothing but growth for GA and the rest of the Southeast.  Further, we would love to know where Highland (Asheville, NC) and Terrapin fall on the overall list

Oh, and nothing from Florida.  With a population of 18 million plus.  Someone who crafted a beer that tasted just like Milwaukee’s Best Light could make a mint.

Best d’Atlanta - 3.4.2008

[Try the ceviche, brah!]

  1. Former Duke HC and Georgia Tech LB Ted Roof has caught on as Defensive Coordinator at Minnesota.  We suggest Roof avoid any kool-aid offered by Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney.  ESPN with a less biased account of this transaction between universities.
  2. CL’s restaurant blog-type-thing says that a Maxim restaurant is opening at the Glenn Hotel.  I was so excited about our potential hotel bar scene.  A press release says the restaurant will be an “intelligent steakhouse for intelligent people.”  I am confused as to why Maxim wouldn’t target the restaurant towards its readers.
  3. Dekalb is actually doing something about water use.  Unlike our-leaky toilet having-selves.  AJC comes with it.
  4. Brick Store is getting some love from Forbes.  It was named as one of the top ten beer bars in the nation.  inDECATUR with a Forbes quote containing some backhanded southern stereotypes.
  5. One billion for an airport, but nary a cent for public transportation.  We still think the terminal is a net good.  ATLBizChronic feels the flow.
  6. Tondee’s has the Kasim Reed for Mayor announcement.  This mayoral campaign will be interesting.  Hold your race cards tight everyone.

Meaningless Lists

Forbes says that Atlanta is the 4th best city in the nation for jobs in 2008. This is up from 22nd in 2007 and 42nd in 2006. So there goes your last excuse to sit at home and watch Bill Murray’s entire catalog in lieu of looking for a job. Damn.

[Get A Job, Okie.]

  1. Salt Lake City, UT
  2. Wichita, KS
  3. Austin, TX
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. Forth Worth, TX
  6. Indianapolis, IN
  7. Houston, TX
  8. Omaha, NE
  9. Raleigh, NC
  10. Seattle, WA

This is the article from whence the list sprang. It explains the methodology, which frankly, we find pretty pointless.

The eye in the sky, sitemeter, indicates that y’all aren’t doing a lot of work, so here is another meaningless list.
