Nobody At The AJC Actually Watches The Wire

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s in theory only coverage of arts and entertainment continued with a faux blog post about The Wire, the critically acclaimed HBO drama, on its Access Atlanta affiliate. As you can see these two (1 & 2) “articles” both preview and discuss the season’s first episode. Yet, not surprisingly, the coverage is so superfluous that it would be more at home on a bad blog (I guess Access Atlanta counts) or in the waste paper bin under an editor’s desk.

The article is good for some sad yet sweet unintentional irony. The Wire focuses on different aspects of urban life in Baltimore with its primary focus on drug dealers and the police. In past seasons they have also delved into politics, international drug trafficking, and labor unions. This season they plan on looking into the degradation of the American newspaper at the hands of its profit hungry corporate masters. The AJC’s coverage of this issue extends only as far as:

I was skeptical about the focus on the media and it’s shortcomings in covering the breakdown of the system and community, but those newsroom scenes were fantastic and very realistic. Indeed.
