- It’s good to be king. It’s also good to be the mayor’s daughter. Kai Franklin gets what amounts to a free pass on her money laundering charges.
- We got this info for cheap. Clipse, Three Six Mafia, and others will be in town for the A3c Hip Hop Festival this weekend. See below.
- “Alleged liberals” - this is the term we are going to use whenever neighborhoods fight density.
- CL takes a negativeview on Grant Park eatery Stella. We went there the other night. Their hostesses were cultishly friendly. We hit the road when we realized that a liquor license hadn’t yet been obtained.

East Atlanta Tornado Pictures
The AJC and other media outlets have virtually ignored the EAV. Many in the neighborhood have just recently got their power back. We give love to our South Atlanta brethren (or sisteren or whatever) with these pics.

[One of many older trees lost in the neighborhood.]

[Common sight this weekend.]

[Debris, debris everywhere.]

[We were told by friends that parts of the neighborhood were inaccessible by car on Friday night.]

[Impassable road.]

[From the roots.]

The Dekalb County Police Puts that Good (loose interpretation) Shit in Your Ear

[If DPD is hiring, we recently heard this sailor was unemployed.]
The Dekalb County Police realize they have an image problem with several generations of men raised on hip hop (and, of course, police violence). They want to let the people know that they are also in them streets everyday. Unlike Jeezy, we believe they look down on peddling so much white, it’ll hurt your eyes. Luckily, they got them skills in the production booth. [Read more →]

Jane Fonda - A Video Vixen?
Not really. But here she is saying “cunt” on national teevee. Also, we spent like 30 minutes trying to find an Atlanta connection for this Katt Williams video. We couldn’t, but are putting it up anyway. Another post should be available immediately following our lunch break.

[Our Current Conception of Where Forsyth County is Located]
- Panderfest 2008, also known as the Georgia Legislature, is going to be sure that you can water your lawn. Good to know our commitment to water conservation isn’t meaningful. Next on the agenda, making sure Whitewater stays open. Our favorite part of this legislation is the online tutorial. The AJC details this waste of your tax dollars and more.
- PeachPundit has dubbed Glenn Richardson Tax Jesus. More coverage here.
- Atlantan Cee-Lo and former Athenian Danger Mouse are getting ready to release Gnarls Barkley’s second album. I guess Q-100 may finally have to stop playing Crazy. SOHH with the details.
- The AJC lets a GSU professor roll out some serious anecdotal evidence about when science was wrong. He lists, like, three whole times. This of course leads to the logical conclusion that “we know almost nothing” about global warming. This editorial would fit nicely in a high school newspaper, so long as that paper was published at a below average public school.
- Katt Williams is coming out with a rap album. I wish he would come out with a comedy CD. For those who haven’t seem The Pimp Chronicles

- Y’all seem to love lists (lawyaz especially). Forsyth County is 13th on the Forbes list of richest counties in the US. Don’t get all cocky Forsyth, you’re still, like, a 2 hour and 45 minute drive from Atlanta.
- Manchester Orchestra is playing at the Loft tonight. Chances of awesomenes, 100%.

[Unfortunately, we will always remember fat Marlon Brando]
- Homegrown Restaurant Concepts, the Atlanta-based restaurant group that created Doc Chey’s, is opening an Italian Restaurant called Stella Neighborhood Trattoria in Grant Park near the corner of Memorial Drive and Boulevard. The restaurant will have a bar and patio and opens in February. We could probably insert something hilarious about A Streetcar Named Desire if we had ever seen the play. Simpsons episodes excluded.
- Greenwash - a pejorative term that environmentalists and other critics use to describe the activity of giving a positive public image to putatively environmentally unsound practices. We apologize for the condescension if you already knew this definition. Watch the local news and realize how pertinent it is.
- I’ll take intifada for $1000, Alex. Salman Rushdie is going to be at Emory on Sunday 10 February at 5:00 pm. Tickets are $10.

Whitest Rap Album Review On Earth (Other Than In Sweden)
I am not going to get into the background information about DJ Drama’s legal trouble. For that information you can look here (CL) or here (NYT). I want to fully focus on his major label debut album, Gangsta Grillz. It is the type of underground promotional mix-tapes, whose distribution was tacitly approved by corporate music, he had recently thrived upon. Although each track on the album’s rear cover is listed as “Drama featuring X, Y & Z,” it is essentially a mix-tape, using a wide variety of both producers and mc’s.
I broke my habit of listening to an album in order upon first listen, because I was so excited to listen to some new Clipse. It was a good choice as these three were some of the best. When Pharrell, Pusha & Malice (minus Pharrell=Clipse) rap about a city thriving from the drug trade I thought they were talking about Atlanta, only later in the track do you realize they are talking about Miami. I was a little relieved, although I realize that major drug trafficking occurs in and through Atlanta, I would prefer it not be the setting for every artist’s musical version of Scarface.
