Hawks Win
The Hawks won last night at Phillips Arena to even their series with the Celtics at 2-2. Here is a video of Al Horford (who we officially forgive for having gone to Florida) getting in Paul Pierce’s grill in game 3. Just prior to this moment Pierce had taken a flop that would have made Cristiano Ronaldo proud

Harry the Hawk, Shriner?
The Hawks are having a good better season, yet something about this video of Harry the Hawk randomly riding a mini-motorcycle seems apropos.

Best d’Atlanta - 2.29.2008 (Leap Year Edition)

[An artist’s rendering of the new GSU dorms.]
- Good to know that pointless transportation projects are still set to all systems go. The Mag Lev train between Atlanta and Chattanooga is still on according to one Chattavegas paper. Sorry Gwinnettians, nothing but traffic and teeth grinding for you.
- According to the AJC, Billy Knight thrice attempted to fire Mike Woodson. Way to keep family matters out of the street.
- Rich Midtown denizens may want to turn away at this point. AroundMidtown has some pictures of the Piedmont Park parking deck.
- We have some sad restaurant closing news. Snellville favorite Little Gardens is closing this Sunday. For a long time it seemed as though this was the only restaurant in Gwinnett not called Chili’s.
- Decatur Metro reports that a new bookstore called Blue Elephant is opening in the Decatur area. But will they treat me as snarkily as the folks at A Capella do?
- Georgia Sports Blog has the full Knowshon 2007 highlights. Any guess as to the soundtrack?
- While H&M struggles to get its first store launched in Atlanta, it announces plans for two more. The Swedish retail chain plans on adding stores at Mall of Georgia and Town Center. (-7 Hip Points)
- CL has info on the 2008 Atlanta Film Festival.
- GSU is adding more student housing. Atlanta Business Chronicle with the straight dope. This round includes fraternity houses. They will regret this decision in 5, 4……

[When you say “Omaha” this is what pops into our heads.]
- Braves and Birds talks about the Mike Bibby trade. This is the best analysis we have seen on the deal. Of course, you don’t typically get a lot of in depth coverage of the 9th best team in the Eastern Conference.
- The AJC has a good op-ed on the possible destruction of the Buckhead Library. The razing of a postmodern landmark will make the entire city look like philistines.
- One of the CL quasi-blogs visited new restaurant The Depot on Memorial Drive. The restaurant, which resides in an old train depot, is run by the same people who own Vickery’s. We are planning on visiting this place very soon.
- Georgia Sports Blog points out that UGA has made the College World Series in each of the last two even numbered years. We’re sold. Where can we pick up our tickets to Omaha?
- The Coathangers and the Selmanaires are playing the Earl. C&T with a little bit extra.

All Star Break Hawks Update
Most people stopped reading this post as soon as they saw the word “Hawks”. We appreciate you sticking around. Going in to the All Star Break the Hawks are ninth overall in the Eastern Conference (1 spot out of the playoffs). They wrapped up the first half of the season by blowing a sizable lead in the waning moments against Charlotte, a team which has struggled since getting off to a hot start.
The loss typifies the season. The team plays really well for stretches, but inevitably reverts to that WTF-type play Hawks fans know and loathe. The whole “this is a young team” argument is beginning to have a serious case of diminishing marginal returns.

[Hear the Hawks roar! Or cacaw, or whatever.]
The popular opinion is that Mike Woodson has to go after this season whether the Hawks make the playoffs or not. We will leave this sort of speculation for those who know what the hell they are talking about (notice our shiny new link to the Atlanta Hawks Blog). [Read more →]

[Cacaw!]
- Even on a holiday Hawks tickets scalp for about $5 per seat. So, sit back, drink a five dollar beer in the CNN Center, and contribute to Atlanta’s vibrant black market economy.
- Traditional city centers are thriving again in Gwinnett County. The AJC has the article. Is this the death of mall-centered communities?
- Dawgbone.net is the best basic Georgia athletics site there is. We would be saying that even if they didn’t account for half the traffic directed to this site thus far.
